Conditions and Season
With its flat waters and sandy bottom, the huge lagoon in front of General Luna is the perfect spot for learning or advancing your skills. Winds are moderate (12 to 20 knots) cross on-shore most days. And if there is no wind, there are still plenty of options, like surfing or standup paddle-boarding. Experienced riders will enjoy a good choice of wavespots to kite in. You can also go on downwinders along the coast, or kite to Daku Island, the island inside the lagoon.
The north of the island around Pilar can also be discovered by kite. The winds here are not as reliable as on Boracay, but if you like board-sports in general, then it’s your perfect destination. Surf, Kite, Wake, SUP, or Longboard- there are plenty of options on the island.
The season goes from November to March, with December to February being the prime months.
Kitesurfing Siargao
This is a newly-opened kitesurf center next to the cemetery of General Luna on Siargao Island. It is located directly on the beach in a huge white house with a wide white sand beach. There is a bar offering drinks and snacks like fresh fruit shakes and sandwiches. At the kite school, there are always people around to meet. It’s a nice place with hammocks – to hang out, get to know locals and other visiting kiters, and watch kite videos.
How to get there
Seabreeze Kite Club is a 40-minute drive from the airport. All flights go through Cebu. You can choose to either fly from Cebu City direct to Siargao Island, or fly to nearby Surigao City and then catch a ferry boat to Siargao Island. Be careful to check departure schedules beforehand, as the last boat normally leaves at 1pm.
